We Came From Russia in Altai Mountains
1,000 years ago, the people who match our Ydna came from one man. We've met online through familytreedna which is in Houston, Texas where we've tested our dna.
We spoke Turkic, no doubt before our ancestors learned Yiddish, which they spoke when they migrated to Lithuania. There were other members of the Altaic language group who also spoke Turkic. These Altai Mountains are known as the original locus of the speakers of Turkic.
The Altai mountains cover a lot of territory. They are in Mongolia, China, Russia and Kazakhstan. I figure we're from the Russian sector as we did head for Lithuania which later became part of Russia.

Are Q1b Goldfoots from Khazaria? Most Likely Not
Khazaria was on the Silk Road and involved with trading. Kagan "King" Bulan had three speakers come to him; a Christian, Muslim, and Jew. He had decided on becoming Jewish. He and his royal court converted.
I'd like to know who we would have sprouted from if it isn't Khazaria. We had a common male ancestor from 1,000 years ago from these mountains. Since we descendants have a high percentage of a Jewish heritage, I deduce that this 1,000 yr old ancestor was also Jewish. He must have lived in a Jewish community at that time as the descendants found tend to be Jewish, too. The geographical origins do not hold Jewish strongholds except Khazaria that I know of. Jews are not people known to proselyze so we've never sent people out in the hinterlands to do so. We have moved around a lot for purposes of trade. Cohen haplogroups have been found in a tribe in Africa. One tribe there has even claimed ownership to Moses's ark. The Queen of Sheba and her entourage went back to their home in Africa pregnant after visiting King Solomon. We have their descendants now living in Israel.
Dan Kurzman back in 1948 wrote about Khazarians in an ibid in his book "Genesis 1948."
The Arabs roaming about in Palestine before the advent of Israel's birth on May 14, 1948 commented that all Jews were descendants from the Khazar tribes of southern Russia who had embraced Judaism. They didn't know that dna testing would prove otherwise. Now we know of the haplogroup that shows Cohens-direct descendants from Moses and Aaron, and other Jews from the Middle East.
In his reference, Kurzman had this comment. In the year A.D. 740, a Tartaric warrior people living in the kingdom of Khazar on the western shore of the Caspian Sea, speaking Greek and practicing a blend of Christianity and paganism, were converted to Judaism under their king, Bulan. However, in 969, and army from Kiev defeated the Khazars, incorporated their territory into a new Russian state, and reconverted them to Christianity. In 1500, another incredible episode took place in Russia when two Greek Orthodox priests in Lithuania converted to Judaism, proselytized in the hinterland, and won thousands of other converts, including the daughter-in-law of the Duke of Moscow. The frightened Orthodox Church stamped out the rush to Judaism by drowning 300 Jews as a form of "baptism," and trying-unsuccessfully-to banish the rest from Russian territory.
I just heard about something similar to this at our genealogy meeting from Hal Bookbinder of UCLA. After Russia was upset because some Russian citizens were captivated by Judaism, they decided to oust Jews from "Old Russia" by confining us to the Pale of Russia.
We're lucky in being able to pinpoint our geographical origins and years from a common ancestor. Now we just need a map dating 1,000 years back showing the area and its religious groups.

Goldfus in Minneapolis, Hennepin, Minnesota 1930
On the 8 April 1930 census living at 706 Queen Avenue, Minneapolis, Minnesota was the widow Annie Goldfus age 58 who had $4,000 but was renting. She was born in Lithuania but her daughter, Rose age 28 was born in Minnesota. She was a social worker for the Family Welfare Association. Living with them was their aunt Gertrude Leventhal age 77, also from Lithuania. Annie immigrated in 1884 and Gertrude in 1880. They were some of the earlier immigrants from Lithuania that I have seen.
On the 11 April 1930 census in Minneapolis I found Charles Goldfus b: 1898 age 32 in Minnesota, a refrigeration salesman with parents from Russia who had married a year ago to Sylvia age 30 who was 28 when they married. She brought into the marriage her son from a previous marriage, 7 year old Charles F. Mark also born in Minnesota. They were living at 3120 12th Avenue South.
On the 10 April 1930 census living in St Paul, Ramsey, Minnesota I found Hyme I Goldfus age 36 born in Minnesota who had married Russian born Ethel age 28. They married two years ago when Hyme was 34 and Ethel 26.Ethel immigrated in 1904. Now Hyme is an office manager for a wholesale radio shop. They live on Cretin Avenue. Hyme's parents were from Russia.
Irish 1911 Census Showing Goldfoot
GOLDFOOT
The first group David sent to us were living in Dublin in Wood Quay County on Victoria Street. They turned out to be the family of Denise and Ian Goldfoot. They were Hyman 43, a jeweler, wife Blume 39, Annie 17, Janie 12, Abraham 10, Louis 8, Solomon 6 and Isedor 4. They were all born in Dublin, Ireland. Denise writes that Annie was known as Nadia. Janie was really Jennie. Solomon was Denise and Ian's father.
There was an Abraham age 60 living in Cork, Ireland in Cork #1 Urban county on 42 Grand Parade Street. He was born in Russia, listed as married but the information did not show a wife living with him. He was a dentist. He lived with a boarder, John Bakely age 47. He was also a dentist, married with no wife on the list and was born in America. He was of the Church of England. The Parish they lived in was Holy Trinity.
Also living in Cork, Ireland was George but in Cork #6 Urban county on South Mall Street. He was only 30 years old and was born in Liverpool, England. He was a dental surgeon. He had a servant living with him, Daniel Shanhan age 17 from Cork City who was a Roman Catholic. I wonder if George was the son of Abraham being they lived in the same city and were of the same profession.
In Dublin, Ireland in the county of Fitzwilliam living on Harcourt Street lived Jacob and his cousin Arthur. Jacob was 25 years old and Arthur was 18. Jacob was a dental assistant and Arthur was a dental apprentice. Both were single.
Living in Antrim in Clifton County on #27 Hillview Street was Morris 42, a General Draper, with wife Sarah, 36, and children Rachel 13, Bertha 12, Isaac 10, Barney 9, Esther 7, Gerty 5, Louie 3 and Rosie 2. Morris and Sarah were born in Russia. They had been married for 14 years, making that 1897 when they married. All the 8 children were born in Dublin.
This accounts for 22 Goldfoot people who were living in Ireland in 1911 that were on the census.
We know from past accounts of our history that Goldfoots came from Lithuania. They went to England and then some went onto Ireland. Some even went to Wales. Dentistry was very popular in the family.

Goldfoots from Dublin, Ireland
Morris 42 from Russia, having lived in Dublin, with wife Sarah 36 from Russia, had 8 children living with them in Antrim, Ireland in 1911. They were Rachel 13, Bertha 12, Isaac 10, Barney 9, Esther 7, Gerty (Gertrude in my records) 5, Louie 3, and Rosie 2, all having been born in Dublin so they must have recently moved to Antrim. Clifton is also listed. They all lived at Hillview Street.
Thank you David! Bertha and Gerty were already names on my list under Morris. I didn't have his wife's name.
I sure wish people in those days named what part of Russia they had come from. Russia must have included Lithuania where I THINK they came from but am not positive. Everything just says "Russia".
